game comparison
Asteroids, 1979:
Asteroids, a game released in the arcade in 1979 was a revolutionary game that really started off the simple 'survival' genre.
The game was made for the PC platform and was a very simple game set in a 2d arena, the game is a sidescroller game and your objective is to destory as many asteroids as you can while trying to survive, the more asteroids you destroy the more points you get in the final result.
you get 3 lives to try anddo as well as you can and people can very easily get addicted to this game.
The game is done so that when you shoot the bigger asteroids the then they split up into smaller asteroids which then split up into smaller ones. i would reccomend that you focus down each asteroid without shooting others, this will make the game easier for you.
the graphic style of this game is very simple, it is just a black 'space' background with white outline for the space ship, score, and asteroids.
Call of duty black ops:
released 18th of november 2010
focusing on Dead ops arcade
Dead ops arcade is a birds eye view version of the normal call of duty zombie mode, the reason i have compared this to asteroids is because it has the same base concept to it, Survival, it is basically like all other birds eye survival games, you get power ups from killing the creatures (in this case zombies) and you get other things like new weapons from the zombies too.
Call of Duty Black ops was made for the Xbox 360, PC and PS3 and was a very successful game like all the others in the call of duty series. The game mode dead ops arcade was a 3d birds eye view game that was unlocked by completing the call of duty campaign, the main aim of the game mode was to survive as long as you can and gain as many points as you can.
there are also things like mini bosses that add to your points because they are worth more to kill. The game has a realistic graphic style to it because it is a zoomed out birds eye version of the call of duty graphics.
Overall id you strip dead ops arcade right down to the basics it is a character model shooting things trying to get him, the same as asteroids so i would say these to games are very similer but dead ops has just been developed more.

Game
1
Genre:
horror
name:
punch
line
Awake
or a dream, you decide
As
I was making up the back story to my game I thought about what the
title be, It would have to be linked in with what the story is about
otherwise there would be no real point.
At
the moment I have 5 idea's for the name.
- Darkness
- The facility
- Awake
- Alone
- Dreaming
My
favourite ones are 'The Facility' and 'Awake' because they have a
real relation to the story line.
Short
back story:
You
play as a character that has been having dreams about a facility, the
dreams are about the facility being abandoned due a toxic gas that
has leaked from the piping system and has spread rapidly around the
facility, as you play through the game you slowly find out what
caused the gas to leak and what the original use for the gas was.
In
the beginning of the game you start of dreaming about the facility
but the further you get into the game and story you soon get
kidnapped and taken to the facility that is in your dreams by the
same group of scientists that you see die in your dream, from the
experience of going through the facility in your dream and dying you
will be able to go through the facility and not die.
Usp:
in
my experience with games I have never seen a game with this type of
story to it, or really that many horror games in a science lab, they
always tend to be in some sort of haunted house.
I
feel that my usp is the game mechanics and the way the game is
played, because being in a dream world then in the real world
constantly isn't that common in games.
Target
audience:
My
game will have an age restriction of 15 due to that fact I will try
to make it as scary as possible, In general I am expect people around
the age of 15 to 22 to buy my game, people that are interested in the
horror genre so when they buy a game on steam my game will show up in
the related games section which they might like.
This
game is really for people that liked to just go on a game and just
have fun getting scared by little jump scares.
Why
my game is fun:
If
you are a fan of Jump scares then you will have fun having this game,
personally I like being scared while watching movies and playing
games because you know that it is not real but that initial scare
pumps you full of adrenalin, this Is what I want my game to do, I
want them to be on the edge while they play because they have becomed
hyped over over the time period.
Game
selling speech:
My
game idea is in the horror genre, it's about a character that has
become delusional from the gas that has leaked into the facility,
your character starts to have strange dreams about a facility that he
has never seen before. The people in this facility were experimenting
on people and trying to cure their psychotic conditions but they
failed, instead the gas they tried to use on them made them deadly,
they became monstrous and killed anyone in sight. The reason the
exposed people started killing everyone is because they thought the
scientists had become demons, the gas makes you hallucinate things
that arn'y actually there.

high game concept
Awake high concept
Gameplay:
as my game is a horror game I have decided to make it quite a paranormal jump scary game that also makes you frightened of carrying on, I have thought of different ways of trying to scare the player by researching a load of horror games from F.E.A.R to Amnesia and they all share similar aspects when it comes to the scares, in fear there are some just creepy scenes that don't give you fright but just make you kind of paranoid then there are the things that jump out when you are not expecting it, I have added a few of 'unexpected' scares in the story, say your walking down a corridor and the music starts to build up slightly and you are about to turn the corner, you are expecting something to jump out at you but no, nothing jumps out which relieves then you carry on walking and suddenly something runs past the next intersection of corridors. This will then make you paranoid because you think something is following you or about to jump out.
In game you will have little things to pick up like collectables and audio logs explaining the what is going on in the story, there will be things you can pick up and keep in your inventory like lights and keycards.
Scene in the game:
In the the first dream you open your eyes and you are suddenly standing in a science corridor and there are scientists running past screaming “they are coming for us run, RUN!” then one scientist runs up to you with his hands covered in blood and grasps you tightly and says “I had to do it don't you see they were inside them, I had to do it.” he then looks behind himself and starts waving his hands around and says “get off me no, get off of me”, he falls to the ground with blood dripping from his nose and lets his last breathe out before dying.
Quick Game story:
the game is set in a science facility that has been abandoned due to what has happened there, you play as a character that starts having dreams about this facility in which you control the character and are wondering around looking for things explaining what happened in the facility and why the scientists went mad, you see blood stains on the floor as you walk around but there are no bodies just trails of blood as if they were dragged away. Throughout the game you are waking up at home then when you go back to sleep you are in the facility again, mid game when you wake up at home you start to see things in your house like things running past quickly or little giggles coming from downstairs, you then start going to bed more because you are getting scared of real life too, even further In game you wake up at home then blink and you are on a bed with scientist looking around you rolling you along the corridor as you frantically look around you start recognising area's from your dreams but by the time you try to struggle out you are put to sleep but when you wake up the scene from the first dream happens as you walk out into the corridor, this is the point that you realise this isn't a dream anymore. As you move further through the game you don't even go to sleep or wake up anymore because you are actually in the facility.
Plan of release:
If the game was released into the indie market the game would be made on unity and it will be released on pc only on the steam indie selection, this is a very good place to try to get your game release because it comes up on the front page of steam and the steam community are into checking out and buying indie games for a test to see if they like it, this is also great for publicity because you get youtubers that check out the steam indie selection and release video's on the new game which is essentially free advertising.

game design concepts
Game design Arts
I Have been trying some methods to make some interesting looking landscapes as practice for making my game scenary, i have made 2 natural landscape images using a method called 'Chaos to Control' which is when you fill a page with marks and different brush texrtures and coloures, after a while of doing this you should stop and have a look at your mess on the page and pick out key parts of it which can be turned into an image.
Chaos To Control:
I have also tried to make create a floating island, i had this one in control from the beggining and i wanted this to be simple but still look like an island, i decided to use texture from deviant art and fill them into the shapes i made for the island.
This is one of my first idea's that i have added proper detail to, this is a hallway for my game that is supposed to have a horror feel to it which is why i have darkend downt he image.
